ORGANIZING 411

Have you been saying for sometime (at least since you’ve made your last New Years resolution), that you wanted to be more Organized?

Ever wondered- what it means to be organized, how you can benefit from it and how to start and complete that project you’ve been waiting to tackle?

Well listen-up. We've got the 411 on Organizing, as in "Organizing 101" or "Basic Organizing Information" We'll even help you understand it enough to motivate you to actually want to get started!

What exactly is Organizing?

Mr. Webster's Dictionary states that to Organize is to give orderly structure to, to arrange, coordinate, sort out, categorize, establish , or form a pattern .

Whether it's in your home, business or life, you can begin to establish or form a pattern of organizing by incorporating your own ideas, personality and style into what works best for you
.

Why be Organized ?

We've all experienced and know how frustrating it is to be caught unprepared and spend valuable time looking a misplaced item or to make multiple trips to the marketplace only to later realize that you already had four of the same items already in the cupboard.

Being organized brings our priorities into a greater focus by making finding things crystal clear. Oh the joy and peace of being able to easily find what you need when you need it...priceless!

Consider these benefits to being organized :

Gives consideration to others - when our personal and business affairs are in order, it creates less of a burden for our loved ones. Everyone can find what they need, when they need it.

Saves time - spend less time looking for things and have more time for what's most important to you

Saves money - you can see what you have which helps to avoid making duplicate purchases.

How do I become Organized?

We encourage you to acknowledge that Organizing is a process that will take more than a quick fix and allow yourself sufficient time to get organized. Julie Morgenstern, Professional Organizer and Author, in her book "Organizing From The Inside Out", uses the following SPACE (S.P.A.C.E.) formula for becoming organized:

  1. Sort - handle each item, grouping like-items together
  2. Purge - keep, toss or donate items
  3. Assign a home- decide on where each item will live
  4. Containerize - use appropriate sized, labeled containers or storage units
  5. Equalize - take time each day to return used items to their new home

Make Organizing Fun!

Organizing does not have to be boring or drab. Add these fun-filled suggestions to your project and enjoy the Journey:

Make it a family affair - work together, getting everyone involved.

Plan a trip - to get storage ideas, visit organizing centers such as Lowe's, The Container Store or Hold Everything.

Apply a new fresh coat of paint to the room you are organizing- it'll perk up your space.

Keep it lively - While organizing, play your favorite tunes and enjoy a special edible treat.

Reward yourself - a fun, necessary item for your newly organized space is sure to make it all worth it and act as a reminder of your milestone.

Now that you've got the 411 on Organizing, you're ready to go to the Next Level!

Remember that if while on your Organizing Journey you hit a bump in the road, your Professional Organizer can get your project back on track and help you reach your final destination.
